Intellectual property as a tool to boost innovation and socio-economic development

Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh received Director General of the World Intellectual Property Orrganization (WIPO) Francis Gurry in Hanoi on March 22.

At his reception, Minister of Science and Technology Chu Ngoc Anh remarked the visit of WIPO Director General Francis Gurry to Vietnam and affirmed the high attention from the Vietnamese Government to intellectual property development. He also affirmed that Vietnam reaches a number of positive outcomes in developing intellectual property system, but facing some challenges. Thus, Ministry of Science and Technology identifies objectives for intellectual property development, including building a national strategy on intellectual property, fine-tuning legal system on intellectual property, enhancing efficiency of intellectual property right establishment, protection and enforcement, reinforcing coordination among intellectual property stakeholders, facilitating infrastructure and enhancing capacity of human resources.

WIPO Director General Francis Gurry praised the role of the Vietnamese Government and Ministry of Science and Technology in building the national strategy on intellectual property, contributing to the innovation process in Vietnam. Mr. Francis Gurry also stated that Vietnam should efficiently exploit intellectual property information to access to advanced technologies in the world./.
