KENFOX Partner Presents on Southeast Asian Medical Device Patent Trends in Suzhou

Suzhou, China – Mr. Nguyen Vu Quan, IP Attorney and Partner at KENFOX IP & Law Office delivered a keynote presentation on “New Developments in Examination and Enforcement of Medical Device Patents in Southeast Asia” at the seminar in Suzhou on 19 November 2024. The presentation was part of a “Intellectual Property Services for High-Quality Industrial Development” salon series held at the Jiangsu Center for Patent Examination Cooperation in Suzhou.

The event, co-hosted by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) and the Jiangsu Provincial Intellectual Property Office, focused on promoting high-quality development in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Sharing at the seminar, Mr. Quan emphasized that the medical device sector in Southeast Asia is witnessing unprecedented innovation, accelerating development and reshaping healthcare across the region. This progress, however, introduces new challenges for patent protection, making it essential for Chinese inventors and companies to stay informed on evolving regulations and enforcement mechanisms. He has offerd expert insights into the key trends shaping the patent landscape for medical devices in Southeast Asia, covering the latest advancements in examination practices, enforcement strategies, and the significant issue of second medical use claims.

The event drew over 150 participants from intellectual property service agencies, biopharmaceutical companies, industry associations, and government bodies. Notable attendees included Mr. Ge Fubin, Deputy Director-General of the Public Service Department of CNIPA and other leaders were also in attendance.
