Mr. Nguyen Vu Quan Invited by the Jiangsu Lawyers Association to Speak on IP Protection in Southeast Asia

At the invitation of the Jiangsu Lawyers Association, China, Nguyen Vu Quan, an IP representative at KENFOX IP & Law Office, delivered a presentation at a training programme on cross-border intellectual property protection, held from 16 to 19 July 2026 in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province.

The programme brought together approximately 150 lawyers and featured presentations by experienced IP experts and practitioners covering the United States, Europe, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. With organisational support from Jiangsu Normal University, the programme addressed practical aspects of IP protection, cross-border dispute resolution and the advisory capabilities needed to support Chinese businesses expanding internationally.

During the afternoon session on 18 July, Mr. Quan presented “Protecting IP in Southeast Asia – IP Risks, Case Studies, and Practical Solutions for Chinese Businesses”.

The presentation adopted a practical approach to protecting intellectual property assets, linking risk identification with case studies and solutions tailored to business needs. These issues are particularly relevant to lawyers advising Chinese clients on building their brands, expanding their business networks and safeguarding their commercial interests in Southeast Asia.

Drawing on more than 20 years of experience advising on and handling IP matters in Vietnam and the wider region, Mr. Quan offered the perspective of an IP enforcement specialist with direct experience in local markets. His approach connected businesses’ commercial objectives with the practical realities of IP protection and enforcement, placing legal issues within their specific business context.

The Southeast Asia session formed part of a broader curriculum covering IP protection and cross-border legal risks in Hong Kong; IP litigation risks and compliance considerations in the United States; European patent and litigation strategies following the establishment of the Unified Patent Court (UPC); and arbitration and mediation of international IP disputes.

Feedback shared by participants following the programme highlighted the value of the speakers’ practical insights and international experience. Participants also expressed their intention to apply what they had learned to enhance the quality of legal services provided to Chinese businesses entering overseas markets.

For KENFOX, participation provided an opportunity to contribute practical expertise, strengthen professional dialogue with the Jiangsu legal community and advance cooperation on cross-border IP matters. Connections between Chinese lawyers and practitioners in Southeast Asian jurisdictions provide a foundation for helping businesses identify risks early, develop appropriate protection strategies and respond effectively when disputes arise.

KENFOX extends its sincere appreciation to the Jiangsu Lawyers Association, the organising team and Jiangsu Normal University for facilitating this professional exchange. The firm looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Chinese colleagues and businesses to protect intellectual property assets in Vietnam and across Southeast Asia.
